Back in the autumn of 2012 when I was asked by the owners of the Sysonby Knoll Hotel in Melton Mowbray to redesign the ground floor public areas it was an exciting project to undertake. Early this year we completed a major refurbishment of its reception, the bar, coffee lounge, restaurant and small meeting room which gave the hotel a new lease of life. The main part of the building remains in the original Edwardian country house, so the areas have been designed with this in mind. I selected classic, calming fabrics, carpets and paint colours which updated the rooms. The addition of some contemporary chandeliers, mirrors, bespoke chairs and recovering some period pieces of furniture added to the transformation.
